Chapter 7 is about how the author wes was approaching graduation and his main focus was his athletic skills, he was featured on times magazine and many colleges wanted to recruit him but when he stepped up to the court with the most talented basketball players he rethinks his options , he stop playing and fell in love with reading books , he loved books he can relate to and thought about his teachers how they impacted his life in a good way and making him a strong leader , so he decided to continue school and become the highest ranking lieutenant , At age 18 he was the youngest Wes became the regimental commander for the 70th Corps of Cadets, which made
him the highest-ranking cadet in a corps of 700+ students. He would now take on a role that would
likely have him leading people twice his age.
The other wes didn't want to believe it, cheryl the mother of his third child is a drug addict , when he found her on the floor high while pregnant with his fourth child after he found out she hasn't overdosed , wes left the house and realized he doesn't want to be in the drug game no more , his friend levy who got out of the game recommended him to job corps , wes got his GED within a month worked as carpentry he loved his job , wes graduated the program in 7 months , he went back to Baltimore and got jobs that only pay 9$ and hour , wes began getting frustrated , he went to a friends house to pick up a package and it was ingredients to make cocaine , wes was tearing up but he realized crying does no good even though he wants to stay out of the game, he feels like he
doesn’t have a choice if he wants to provide for his family.
This chapter relates to outliers:Meaningful Work because the author wes was motivated by his teachers and fell in love with books and his education , he had meaning in his work he wanted to become the best leader and become successful and as for the other wes even though he didn't want to be in the game no more but that was meaningful work for him because he gets tons of money and he has to support his family and needs that money to make a living and the drug game is his only option.
