Outliers Chapter 2 - The 10,000 hour rule.
Holly Beck liked being physically active and was interested in action sports and sports, She was successful at being a pro surfer and the steps she took to get there is when she was young, At age 12 she was learning to surf and she never quit everyday she spent the day at the beach either surfing and practicing or competing in a competition with other surfers. she wanted to be different than the other girls. In the book "Outliers" chapter 2 Gladwell argues that in order to become successful, the person must start at a young age and work hard until he/she hits the 10,000 hour mark but there's people that rarely receives opportunities to reach that amount of practice. I see this concept being applied to Holly Becks life because she started to learn to surf at age 12 and she kept practicing until she went pro. When she was young, she says surfing was a way she "defined herself" as a separate entity. she wanted to be different and i'm not so sure if she completed 10,000 hours, she said shes been surfing since 12 until the current age she is now but she still worked hard until she achieved her goal was being part of the International Womens Surfing so i think she did completed the 10,000 hour mark because she became a professional at surfing, as Gladwell explains in order to become a professional at something you need to complete that mark.
